Mother nature never fails to amaze me with the beauty that it presents to us. Taroke Gorge is definitely one of those places where pictures and photographs just can't do it justice. The scale of the gorge is massive. When surrounded by these marble beauties, it really reminded me of how small we are as humans, compare to this earth we live in, and just how much respect I have for it. It's a sight that really can't be put into words.

Cats Everywhere! - HouTong Cat Village
Tuesday 1 July 2014
Happy Canada Day!
Yeah I am not doing anything Canada Day celebration related today. Instead, I am looking at pictures of cats! (how random) These cat photos were taken three years ago, I thought I'd re-share them since it's quite an interesting subject.
Situated at Rueifang (瑞芳) District of Taiwan, Houtong (猴硐) used to be the largest coal-mining site until the 1970s. The coal-mining industry fell into decline in the late 1980s as a result of other popular efficient resources available. The residents of Houtong began to move away from this dying mountainous village in search of other possibilities until things took a change in 2009. A group of cat lovers decided to organize a series of photography event dedicated to improve the living environments of these neighbourhood cats. The photos of these cats went viral, which attracted more cats and photography enthusiasts to come and see the site themselves. Houtong then became known as "the cat village", which is interesting because the name "Houtong (猴硐)" literally means "monkey cave"in Chinese!
How to get there:
Take the train from Taipei Railway Station to Houtong Station on the Yilan line.
